Job description

Thank you for your interest in this post at WQE. We believe that this is a particularly exciting time to be joining us, offering a real opportunity to make a difference in this thriving and vibrant Sixth Form College. We strive for excellence in all aspects of our work with students; their academic and wider achievements, their learning experiences, the support they receive in their academic progress, their learning environment and their wider experience of College life. The College operates across two closely located campuses, next to the University of Leicester on University Road and a smaller campus at Regent Road.

In this context, we are looking to appoint a well-qualified, self-motivated and enthusiastic teacher of A Level Psychology and the Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology, who will help us provide the best possible learning experience and outcomes for our students. This post will be based with our team at the University Road Campus. This post will involve the teaching of 3 sets of Yr1 A Level Psychology following the AQA specification, and 2 sets of Yr2 Criminology following the Eduqas specification.

THE CURRICULUM AREA – SOCIAL SCIENCE

This vibrant curriculum area brings together Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, and Religious Studies. The curriculum area consists of twenty-three teaching staff and is led by a Curriculum Area Leader, supported by two Deputy Curriculum Area Leaders and two Assistant Curriculum Area Leaders. The leadership of the curriculum area ensures the provision of high quality outcomes and experiences for students and lead the on‑going development of teaching, learning and assessment.

The area is located in large, open‑plan offices in the College’s main teaching blocks, on the University Road campus, and uses classrooms nearby. There are a good range of resources including excellent online materials, interactive whiteboards, library holdings and IT facilities.

Sociology

This year there are 12 Yr1 A Level groups, 10 Yr2 A Level groups and 2 GCSE groups, with approximately 560 students. Students study the AQA specification.

Psychology

There are currently 24 Yr1 groups, 21 Yr2 groups and 4 GCSE groups, comprising roughly 1,100 students in all. Students study the AQA specification for the A Level and the OCR specification for the GCSE.

Religious Studies

There are currently 3 Yr1 groups and 2 Yr2 groups, with approximately 90 students in total. Students study the Eduqas specification.

Criminology

There are currently 8 Yr1 groups and 8 Yr2 groups, with approximately 370 students in total. Students study the Eduqas qualification.

For our part we shall make every effort to support our new colleagues in making the best of the professional opportunities offered by these posts.

This is a fixed term full‑time / term‑time post commencing as soon as possible to cover a period of maternity leave of up to 12 months or on the return of the incumbent post holder.

The salary will be at a point on the Sixth Form Colleges pay spine which ranges from £33,465 – £51,714 per annum.
