Job summary

A leading tunnelling company in the UK is recruiting for multiple roles including TBM Fitters, Electricians, and Welders. Candidates should have experience in tunnelling projects, strong health and safety awareness, and relevant certifications like JIB Gold Card and AWS welding certificate. This full-time position offers long-term employment opportunities particularly in tunnelling operations across England.

Qualifications

  • Experience working as a mechanical engineer on tunnelling projects.
  • Experience working on TBM projects.
  • Proven experience as a welder.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative maintenance on tunnelling plant equipment.
  • Perform installation works for the TBM & tunnelling equipment.
  • Read blueprints and weld components while ensuring safety.

Job description

Division: Tunnelling

Location: London, Liverpool, Scotland, South and West of England

Hours: Full‑time

Contract: Fixed term (long term roles)

TBM Fitters

As the TBM Fitter, you will be required to:

  • Carry out preventative maintenance on tunnelling plant equipment
  • Carry out maintenance and reactive repairs
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed

Experience / qualifications needed:

  • Experience working as a mechanical engineer on tunnelling projects
  • Strong knowledge of tunnelling machines and plant equipment
  • A strong health and safety awareness
  • TEEPS or TSTS qualification would be highly beneficial
TBM Electricians

As the TBM electrician you will perform maintenance and installation works for the TBM & Tunnelling equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carry out preventative maintenance on plant and equipment
  • Carry out reactive repairs and maintenance as required
  • Installation of tunnelling & plant equipment

Experience needed:

  • Experience working on TBM projects
  • Strong health and safety awareness
Qualifications/Training
  • JIB Gold Card
  • Safety Critical Medical (desired)
  • Tunnelling training would be highly beneficial
  • ECS card
TBM Welders

As a skilled TBM Welder, you will be responsible for cutting and joining metals and other materials. You will operate appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. Your job is important as it provides the foundation for strong infrastructure.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
  • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
  • Weld components using manual or semi‑automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
  • Repair TBM machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

Experience needed:

  • Proven experience as welder
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA etc.)
  • Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
Knowledge / Qualifications
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face‑shield, gloves etc.)
  • Deftness and attention to detail
  • Proficient in English
  • Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is required
  • Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus
