Join us as a Tax Manager

  • We're looking for a tax expert to provide technical tax advice to our corporate, commercial, institutions and markets' businesses
  • Day-to-day, you'll be evaluating the tax technical and reputational risk that can come from new products, transactions and business areas
  • You'll make a far-reaching impact by being a trusted advisor and creating an environment that's focused on continuous improvement

What you'll do

In line with our Tax Strategy, you'll be providing tax advisory support to the businesses while ensuring compliance with the tax principles' policy and Code of Practice on taxation for banks. This will include liaising with the front office teams, reviewing products, clients and transactions, providing recommendations and escalating any concerns to senior management. The scope of your review will cover both tax technical and reputational risk issues.

You'll oversee transactional tax issues within the relevant businesses and liaise with the operational tax teams. We'll look to you to monitor the external tax environment and brief the business and senior management on new developments, and provide training where appropriate. Working internally with tax teams and tax colleagues, we'll also expect you to represent the bank in discussions with key external parties including audit teams, HMRC, external advisers and key industry bodies. Focusing on efficiency, you'll suggest ways to streamline review procedures to maximise use of department resources.

  • Monitoring tax risk and improving tax risk controls
  • Providing advice and tax updates to executives and in risk forums

The skills you'll need

You'll also need:

  • Post-qualification tax experience in financial services
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK direct tax legislation, international tax, indirect tax, operation taxes and product specific tax issues
