Job Title:

Systems Design Integration Engineer

Working Pattern:

Full-time

Working Location:

Bristol/Hybrid

When you join as a Systems Design Integration Engineer at Rolls-Royce Defence, you’ll play a key role in delivering one of the most ambitious engineering challenges in the UK — the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), supporting the development of the next-generation Tempest fighter jet. Based in Bristol with hybrid working, you'll be at the heart of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team solving complex integration problems across physical and functional systems.

You’ll work alongside stakeholders to extract and define technical requirements, develop innovative solutions, and shape verification strategies across the product lifecycle. This is an opportunity to apply systems thinking and creative problem-solving in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment — helping to deliver cutting-edge capability for the future of global defence.

Why Rolls-Royce?

Rolls-Royce is one of the most enduring and iconic brands in the world and has been at the forefront of innovation for over a century. We design, build and service systems that provide critical power to customers where safety and reliability are paramount.

We are proud to be a force for progress, powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere.

We want to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that has shaped our history continues into our future and we need people like you to come and join us on this journey.

We’ll provide an environment of caring and belonging where you can be yourself. An inclusive, innovative culture that invests in you, gives you access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities where you can grow your career and make a difference.

What we offer

We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing

In this role, you will:

  • Apply systems engineering principles to investigate and resolve complex problems across safety, quality, customer and business requirements.

  • Define and interpret technical requirements, product documentation and verification strategies across the full product lifecycle.

  • Engineer and integrate complex systems (electro, fluid, thermal, mechanical), considering interactions from component to platform level.

  • Develop innovative, optimised solutions using new technologies, managing risk in a highly regulated environment.

  • Support validation and verification activities, including justification for release to service, and provide technical backing for in-service products.

Who we are looking for

At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles

We’re looking for individuals who can demonstrate:

  • A background in engineering, ideally supported by a degree or equivalent experience. Professional membership and working towards (or already holding) Chartered status is beneficial but not essential.

  • Strong technical knowledge across design methodologies (e.g. V-model, Model-Based Systems Engineering, etc...) and cross-discipline concepts such as manufacturing, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, mechanical analysis, and product definition.

  • The ability to analyse complex technical challenges, apply logical and innovative thinking, and make sound decisions balancing both technical and business factors.

  • Familiarity with product integrity, reliability, and certification frameworks within highly regulated environments.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives which are crucial to innovation and problem solving. We believe the more diverse perspectives we have, the more successful we’ll be. By building a culture of caring and belonging, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.

You can learn more about our global Inclusion strategy at Our people | Rolls-Royce

We welcome applications from people with a refugee background.

To work for Rolls-Royce you may need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance for some roles. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, for some roles you must hold a UK nationality.
