Job description

Support Worker - Deaf Community Services

We have fantastic new opportunities to join us and support our deaf or hearing impaired service users in Blackburn.

We are looking for confident Care & Support Workers with the passion to deliver outstanding care and empower d/Deaf or hearing impaired service users to access the same recovery opportunities as their hearing peers.

You will work full time (42 hours per week) on a mixed shift pattern of 3/4 12-hour shifts per week, supporting our d/Deaf or hearing impaired (profound, severe, partial, or hard of hearing) service users with mental health needs in our new Deaf community step-down setting in Blackburn.

Note: This role requires a minimum of BSL Signature Level 2 as it is a Deaf service. Interviews begin from May 16th.

About the service:

Vincent Court is a five-bed community rehabilitation (level 1) service for deaf men progressing through the hospital pathway at Cygnet Bury Dunes (Bridgehampton Ward). We also accept referrals from other high-support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) services, low secure services, and directly from the community.

We offer a safe, comfortable, and homely setting that enables individuals to focus on their recovery and transition back into a more independent lifestyle, continuing to access the same multidisciplinary team (MDT) at Cygnet Bury Dunes.

The service is scheduled to open in late June 2025.

About you:
  • You may be d/Deaf yourself.
  • Experience working or living with Deaf people.
  • You can sign in BSL.
  • Qualified in Signature BSL to at least Level 2.
  • You are a strong worker and team player.
  • You want to support d/Deaf people.
  • You have an interest in helping d/Deaf people with mental health issues.
Your day-to-day:
  • Offer enhanced care with a flexible learning approach.
  • Provide guidance & encouragement through physical & emotional support.
  • Learn about individuals' needs and provide appropriate help.
  • Assist with medical & welfare needs and report as required.
  • Safeguard and maintain a safe, clean environment.
Why Cygnet? We offer you:
  • Opportunities for further learning via our apprenticeship scheme.
  • Flexible working with overtime options.
  • Regular coaching & appraisal.
  • Expert supervision & peer support.
  • Employee discounts & 'Cycle to Work' scheme.

We provide excellent benefits including healthcare, holidays, leisure, professional development, and pension plans to support your happiness both in and out of work.

Successful candidates will undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Cygnet has provided high-quality mental health services for over 30 years, and this role offers a chance to make a real difference.
