Support Worker - Complex Communication Needs

Newcastle Upon Tyne | £14.54-£15.01/hr | Permanent

Are you a passionate Support Worker - Complex Communication Needs with British Sign Language (BSL) skills? Join a new supported living service helping two 23-year-old men with profound deafness transition to independence.

We're hiring full-time (37 hrs/week, 3 x 12-hr shifts) and part-time (min. 21 hrs/week) Support Workers - Complex Communication Needs. Shifts include two weekends/month, with rotas set 2-3 months ahead.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver 1:1 and 2:1 care using BSL or willing to commit to training to complete this course within 1 year.
  • Support with cooking, cleaning, personal care, and routines.
  • Facilitate health appointments and medication.
  • Promote inclusion through swimming, gaming, deaf clubs, and conventions.
  • Use visual tools (VOCA, symbol boards).
  • Maintain accurate care records.
Essential Criteria
  • BSL qualification held, or have the commitment to complete this within 1 year.
  • Experience with learning disabilities or communication needs.
  • Empathy, patience, and trust-building skills.
  • Flexibility for varied shifts and weekends.
  • Experience of working with young people who need support in managing behaviours.
