Substance Misuse Recovery Worker

We have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join our team at HMP Thorn Cross, a Category D/open prison in Appleton Thorn, Warrington, housing around 430 males. Join the Recovery Team and empower those who wish to make changes in their behaviour to promote health and well-being through recovery from drugs and alcohol.

Hours This is a full‑time role, 37.5 hours per week, Monday‑Friday 8:00‑4:00pm.

Salary You will receive an annual salary between £29,264 and £33,510 per annum depending on experience.

Main duties of the job
  • Responsible for a caseload of 35‑45 patients, delivering individual support, relapse prevention, 1‑1s, etc.
  • Deliver group sessions across the substance misuse service, including SMART, patient forums and harm reduction.
  • Plan for prisoner discharge/release, ensuring ongoing care.
  • Deliver outstanding psycho‑social care, seek feedback and tailor care to the individual.
  • Provide programme of psycho‑social interventions.
  • Provide information and advice on substance misuse, alcohol, smoking cessation, blood‑borne viruses and safe sex practices.

Qualifications (Essential)
  • Experience of working within substance misuse in the community, hospital, or secure setting.
  • Experience in a multi‑disciplinary framework (housing, social care, health care, mental health) is a bonus.
  • Experience or knowledge of SMART and running group sessions and 1‑1s is helpful.
  • Relevant qualification or equivalent experience.
