Job summary

A local government council in Kidderminster is looking for a reliable Street Cleansing Operative. The role requires flexible work hours, including weekends and holidays. Job description

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Street Cleansing Operative to join our team. You will play an important role in keeping public spaces clean, safe, and looking good for the local community.

The role will require you to work flexibly on a rota basis covering a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings, bank holidays and Christmas working. It may be required that you work outside normal office hours from time to time as the demands of the post and emergencies dictate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out manual street cleansing, including sweeping, litter picking, and removal of debris.
  • Empty public litter and dog waste bins.
  • Assist with the removal of fly‑tipped waste where required.
  • Ensure town centres, highways, footpaths, and public spaces remain clean and tidy.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely (e.g., barrows, litter pickers, blowers).
  • Report issues such as graffiti, damaged bins, or hazardous waste.
  • Work independently or as part of a small team to meet daily service standards.
About You:
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Good level of physical fitness.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a clean community.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work to set routes/schedules.
  • Experience in a cleansing or grounds maintenance role is beneficial but not essential.
