Overview
To provide professional, direct care to patients showing an awareness of the department objectives and philosophy of care. The post holder will work in a multidisciplinary led environment. The Department of Imaging provides services on all sites and at Hove Polyclinic. The Trust's specialised and tertiary services include neurosciences, arterial vascular surgery, neonatal, paediatrics, cardiac, cancer, renal, infectious diseases and HIV medicine. We are also the major trauma centre for Sussex and the South East.
Responsibilities
- Work in a multidisciplinary led environment and participate in the development of junior staff and assist in the research activities in the unit.
- Adhere to Unit Philosophy for patient care to maintain and improve safe holistic care which meets the needs of individual patients.
- Work in accordance with all UHSussex NHS Trust policies and protocols.
- Participate in emergency medical situations in accordance with policies and procedures in the absence of medical support.
- Demonstrate highly developed physical skills, accuracy and implementation of the tools and materials; responsible for the safe use of equipment and maintaining stock control and security of stock.
- Support and inform family members who accompany patients for both elective and emergency procedures; liaise with referring doctors and ward staff to ensure pre- and post-procedural care is completed.
- Prepare equipment for the safe care of the patient during the procedure; identify potential complications of various drugs used during the procedure, including contrast medium.
- Participate in the planning of the procedure and the management of the procedural list; assess, plan and implement the total care of the conscious or conscious-sedated patient, including monitoring of pulse, blood pressure and oxygen saturation and administration of sedation and documentation.
Qualifications and Requirements
- UK NMC registration or eligibility; prior overseas nursing qualifications may apply under the appropriate visa schemes.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment and commitment to patient care.
- Willingness to participate in emergency procedures and adhere to trust policies.
