The Role

GSL is looking for a compassionate and motivated aspiring Speech and Language Therapist (or someone training in this field) to provide 1:1 support to a non-verbal child. You will work closely with the child, their teachers, and parents to develop communication strategies and support their learning and social development.

Key Responsibilities

• Support a non-verbal child using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies.
• Assist in implementing personalised speech and language programs under guidance from a qualified SLT.
• Work closely with teachers and support staff to integrate communication strategies into daily school activities.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to the SLT, teachers, and parents.
• Encourage social interaction, confidence, and independence through communication-focused activities.

Person Specification

• Studying or training to become a Speech and Language Therapist, or equivalent experience working with children with communication needs.
• Patience, empathy, and creativity in supporting a non-verbal child.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
