Job description

Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking to specialise in stroke care?

Would you love to work in innovative and supportive MDTs where patient centred care and evidence-based practice is prioritised?

Do you want to work for an SLT department that is invested in staff wellbeing and professional development?

If the answer is YES, then Swansea Bay UHB have a part time (30 hours) vacancy you can apply for in our stroke service.

SBUHB's stroke service includes acute services at Morriston Hospital, rehabilitation at Neath Port Talbot Hospital and an Early Supported Discharge Service in the community. All parts of the pathway include experienced MDTs allowing for stimulating and creative opportunities for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary team working.

We welcome applications from candidates with the pre-requisite skills at a band 6 specialist level as well as from those who aspire to develop their knowledge and skills. Under Annex 21, we are offering the opportunity to complete a dedicated competency framework, with access to regular supervision from experienced clinicians, focused CPD activities and a clear pathway for completion of your training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work and develop skills across all parts of the stroke pathway. They will work in a supportive team under the Acute and Rehab Stroke leads with opportunities to support band 5 SLTs, band 4 SLT assistant and Rehab Technicians. The post holder will need to deliver training to other members of the team and will also provide student placements to SLT undergraduates.

You will be working in a team with strong working links across the whole SLT department and opportunities to develop specialist clinical skills and expand professional development with support from specialist colleagues, a Stroke Consultant Therapist and the Neuro-Sciences SLT Clinical Lead. The department is equipped with state of the art equipment to optimize patient care including access to videofluoroscopy clinics, several FEES stacks and instrumental bio-feedback equipment for dysphagia rehabilitation and computer based aphasia therapy.

The ideal candidate will be innovative and dynamic, with strong time management and MDT working skills. Specialist clinical skills and knowledge of stroke medicine, the stroke pathway and evidence based practice will be embedded within their clinical practice. The successful candidate will need to be flexible and adaptable to respond to the changing clinical demands across the pathway.

Qualifications & Training
