Children and Family Health Devon is a system‑wide service that delivers an integrated, coordinated support model which wraps around the child, young person and family. It builds on our strong relationships across education, health, social care and voluntary sector services in Devon, and, most importantly, it has been developed and refined in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers.
The Specialist Learning Disability Service supports Children and Young People with a Profound, Severe or Moderate Learning Disability.
As a Specialist Sleep Practitioner, this role will lead and co‑ordinate supportive sleep workshops, providing best evidence‑based practice in a safe and supportive environment. You will play a crucial role in supporting children and young people with sleep disorders through behavioural interventions and therapeutic strategies. You will work closely with families and young people to assess their sleep patterns, provide education on sleep hygiene, and develop tailored treatment plans to improve their sleep quality and overall health.
As a Specialist Sleep Practitioner lead, you will have responsibility for actively participating as a key member of the clinical team for providing quality services for the Specialist Learning Disability pathway under the supervision of a registered professional.
Work within the Specialist Learning Disability pathway both autonomously and jointly with members of the team.
Lead and co‑coordinate supportive sleep workshops, providing best evidence‑based practice in a safe and supportive environment.
Hold a clinical caseload and be expected to provide a variety of assessments and interventions for children and young people on an individual or group basis in a community setting.
Deliver advanced specialist sleep assessment and support to a client group of children and young people experiencing a range of difficulties.
To liaise with families and professionals to support and sustain an integrated approach to the services that the children with additional needs may have throughout the assessment process and through the child's service plan cycle.
To take the lead in the assessment process where the child's needs are extremely complex or where there is a safeguarding concern.
Using a strengths‑based approach; ensure clinical effectiveness with evidence‑based interventions, goal‑based, collaborative practice and Routine Outcome Measures.

The Specialist Learning Disability pathway consists of a range of multi‑disciplinary professions including Learning Disability Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and support assistants who offer a range of services for children and adolescents with a diagnosed learning disability, from assessment and intervention to consultation, liaison and training for other agencies. The service can support children & adolescents with a moderate to profound learning disability, in conjunction with complex behavioural or sleep issues related to this diagnosis.
