Job summary

We are looking for thoughtful, compassionate and innovative Specialist Clinical Psychologists working into the NHS Children and Young People Gender Service (South West)- CYPGS SW, who will also work within wider Psychological Health Services.

Responsibilities
  • Provide therapeutic services primarily to children, young people and adults with gender diversity issues, including direct and indirect clinical work.
  • Deliver psychological services including assessment, formulation and implementation of interventions in ward-based and out-patient settings.
  • Provide psychological advice, consultation, training and support for other professionals across the care pathway.
  • Support development and evaluation of services, and propose changes for service development, guidelines and protocols relevant to psychological health.
Qualifications
  • Doctorate in clinical psychology, counselling psychology or equivalent.
  • Current registration as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council.
Experience
  • Experience working as a clinical psychologist with young people and adults who have gender diversity conditions.
  • Experience providing psychological consultation, case management, supervision and training to multi-professional and multi-agency teams.
  • Experience undertaking consultation and service development work within a multi-disciplinary physical health setting.
Knowledge
  • Demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidance for children, vulnerable adults, consent, confidentiality and psychological care.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology.
  • Knowledge of specialised psychological assessments and interventions for CYP with gender diversity.
Skills
  • Ability to assess psychological needs, generate formulations and interventions, and manage information effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills with clients, carers and colleagues, and advanced IT skills for data entry and analysis.
Desirable
  • Additional training in a specialised area of psychological practice relevant to working with CYP with gender diversity.
  • Training course in clinical supervision.
