Overview

Special Needs Therapy Assistant - Camberley, Surrey. Special Educational Needs Assistant - Therapy - Care - Intervention - Primary. ASAP start. Salary £90-£95 per day. Location: Camberley.

Are you looking for a rewarding, fulfilling career in a supportive environment? This role offers experience within a relevant field before pursuing careers in Psychology, Criminal Justice or Teaching, and the chance to put your degree to good use. On-site training, support and CPD are provided.

Responsibilities
  • Support students aged 3-11 with a range of special educational needs (including Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Speech and Language needs, disabilities) and associated challenging behaviour.
  • Work 1:1 and in small groups under the guidance of a class teacher and other support staff; assist with classwork and encourage lesson engagement; manage challenging behaviour.
  • Assist with personal care where required and support feeding and manual handling as necessary.
  • Prepare teaching resources and plan learning activities to suit student ability, with support from a teacher.
  • Collaborate with specialist teams (Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy) to support student development.
  • Attend staff meetings, complete appropriate CPD, and ensure safeguarding of students.
  • Commute to Camberley five days a week (Mon-Fri).
  • Salary: £90-£95 per day; current role requires right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship).
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Able to build robust, supportive relationships with students; patient, calm, resilient, and a good listener.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop knowledge to deliver appropriate support and social skills development.
  • Ability to prepare resources and plan activities; ability to deliver personal care as required; experience with 1:1 and small-group support.
  • Right to work in the UK; Enhanced DBS and/or overseas police check where appropriate (candidates registering with Academics Ltd will need to have or apply).
  • Willingness to work in a school setting with a range of special educational needs and to liaise with external therapists.
