3-month contract position with a local authority

Summary

This is a 3-month contract position with a local authority for a Senior Litigation Lawyer. The role involves leading and managing complex debt recovery litigation cases providing expert legal advice and representing the organization in high-value claims. The successful candidate will supervise junior team members and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements. This position is crucial in safeguarding the organization's financial interests through effective litigation strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of complex debt recovery litigation matters from inception to resolution.
  • Draft review and negotiate legal documents including pleadings witness statements and settlement agreements.
  • Represent the organization in court proceedings mediations and negotiations.
  • Provide strategic legal advice on debt recovery and enforcement actions.
  • Ensure compliance with civil procedure rules regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Liaise with external counsel clients and stakeholders as required.
  • Mentor and supervise junior lawyers and paralegals within the litigation team.
  • Prepare reports and updates for senior management on case progress and outcomes.
Essential Experience Required
  • Significant post-qualification experience (typically 5 years) in litigation with a strong focus on debt recovery.
  • Proven track record of handling complex and high-value litigation cases.
  • Experience in managing court proceedings and alternative dispute resolution.
  • Familiarity with civil procedure rules and debt enforcement processes.
  • Previous experience in supervising or mentoring junior legal staff (desirable).
Essential Qualifications Required
  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales (essential).
  • Current practising certificate in good standing.
  • Additional accreditation in litigation or debt recovery (desirable).
