Job description

We are seeking a committed and experienced Social Worker to join the Children in Need Team on the beautiful Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands. The salary range for this post crosses two pay grades and is £55,242 - £63,990 dependant on experience. Reporting to the Team Manager, you will hold a caseload of Child in Need and Care requirement cases. You will assist in the provision and further development of an effective service for children in need and their families by working closely with other agencies, professionals and members of the public. This will include undertaking child and family assessments, developing intervention plans, providing support to those children and families to achieve positive outcomes including those children subject of Care Requirements in accordance with the Children (Guernsey and Alderney) Law 2008. The Law has introduced fundamental and significant changes to how concerns relating to children and young people are dealt with and is based broadly on the Children’s Hearing System in Scotland.

The island of Guernsey is in the Channel Islands and has a population of 65,000. It has some of Britain's finest and best-kept beaches, an especially mild and sunny climate, and an off‑beat, historic harbour town in St. Peter's Port, the island's capital.

The States of Guernsey delivers a diverse range of care; their Social Work service provides an excellent Children and Families Service, supported by Social Workers recruited to a very high standard.

Person requirements
  • Qualified Social Worker with current full UK statutory registration
  • Minimum of two year post‑registration UK experience in Children's Social Care, with some experience in a Children in Need caseload
  • Knowledge and understanding of theory and legislation that affects young people and their families and a good knowledge of childcare practices relating to children in care.
  • Experience of undertaking joint investigations and a variety of needs and risk assessments that are evidence and theory based.
  • Ability to make judgements and decisions with confidence and effectively manage a caseload
  • Be in possession of a clean and current car driving licence; own vehicle required (mileage expensed at full rate)
