A data engineering firm in the City of London is seeking an experienced Snowflake and SQL Server Engineer to provide end-to-end support for critical data platforms. You will be responsible for operational support, incident handling, and performance optimisation across Snowflake and SQL Server environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with both platforms and familiarity with ETL/SSIS processes. This role is offered on a contractual basis with a competitive day rate.

Location: London
We are seeking an experienced Snowflake and SQL Server Engineer to provide end-to-end support, maintenance, remediation, and governance across Snowflake and multiple SQL Server environments. The role involves operational support, incident handling, performance optimisation, migrations, observability, and ongoing improvement of data platforms and pipelines.
The contractor will work across Snowflake, SQL Server (ETL, RDM, RDRM, CRM, DPR, Arrear_RM, SSIS), Oracle, Kafka, and supporting tools to ensure stability, reliability, security, and performance of critical data systems.
Provide full lifecycle support, maintenance, remediation, and governance for Snowflake and SQL Server environments.
Support daily operations and monitor data movement across Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake, and Kafka.
Manage and resolve incidents, service requests, and operational escalations.
Maintain and support legacy SQL and SSIS-based jobs and frameworks.
Ensure database health is monitored and reported daily.
Database provisioning, administration, tuning, and performance improvement for Snowflake and SQL Server.
Manage storage space optimisation, reclamation, and cost optimisation initiatives.
Implement table partitioning, indexing strategies, and database optimisation techniques.
Oversee data archiving, purging frameworks, and retention governance.
Implement and govern security, RBAC, and user access frameworks.
Conduct user access management, auditing, and compliance checks.
Support data protection, backup strategies, DR processes, and patching activities.
Support change, problem, and deployment management processes.
Manage deployments, releases, and RTL activities.
Develop and maintain file-loading and automation frameworks.
Execute and support SSIS packages, ETL processes, and parallel file-loading jobs.
Configuration management and documentation maintenance.
Support ODS/Oracle to Snowflake migrations (including via ODI).
Migrate DR and CRM data into Snowflake to remove legacy reporting dependencies.
Reduce Azure SQL DB dependency by transitioning data pipelines and workloads into Snowflake.
Support CRM job migration, execution, and platform decommissioning.
Assist with SSIS migration and SQL Server decommissioning where required.
Support third-party integrations with multiple internal and external tools.
Build and maintain observability dashboards using Datadog.
Monitor Snowflake and SQL Server compute/storage costs and drive optimisation.
Oversee storage, file management, and capacity planning across environments.
Strong hands‑on experience with Snowflake and SQL Server platforms.
Solid understanding of database administration, performance tuning, and optimisation.
Experience with ETL/SSIS, legacy SQL processes, and parallel file-loading jobs.
Experience supporting multi‑system data ingestion and movement pipelines.
Strong knowledge of incident, change, and problem management processes.
Familiarity with Oracle, Kafka, and cloud data ecosystems.
Experience in large‑scale data platform migrations (Oracle/ODS/CRM to Snowflake).
Understanding of security frameworks, RBAC, and access governance.
Experience with observability tooling such as Datadog.
