Job summary

A leading engineering company in Preston is seeking a Shift Technician for a 12-month contract. The role involves monitoring and maintaining plant equipment, performing inspections, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Candidates should have an NVQ Level 3 in a relevant field and experience in a regulated industry. The position offers a pay rate of £25-£28 per hour based on shift patterns.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends, as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Required to undertake a DBS check.

Hours of work: 8 & 12.5 hour shifts patterns

Key Responsibilities
  • , monitor, and maintain plant equipment in accordance with strict safety and regulatory standards.
  • Perform routine inspections, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance to ensure plant reliability.
  • Accurately record operational data and report any anomalies promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers and other team members to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to all nuclear safety, environmental, and quality assurance requirements.
Essential Requirements
  • Technical qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering.
  • Previous experience in a regulated or high-hazard industry (nuclear, chemical, power generation preferred).
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends, as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Be able to wear full personal protective equipment, including respiration protection.
  • Required to undertake a disclosure and barring service (DBS) check.
  • Required to become monitored workers under the ionising radiations regulations.
Desirable
Knowledge of nuclear safety culture and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with plant control systems and instrumentation.
