Overview

Shift Engineer

Location: Northfleet

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Up to £52,000 per annum

Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (12-hour shifts, 05:00-17:00 and 17:00-05:00)

We are recruiting for a Shift Engineer to join a well-established international leader in industrial services and textile maintenance.

This business supports clients across healthcare, hospitality, and manufacturing by delivering critical textile and hygiene solutions that keep their operations running smoothly.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer with strong mechanical and electrical experience to join a forward-thinking organisation that values safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Responding to breakdowns in a timely and safe manner to minimise production downtime.
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities and ensuring schedules are adhered to.
  • Working collaboratively with your opposite shift engineer to ensure thorough daily handovers and information sharing.
  • Supporting equipment upgrades, installations, and building/infrastructure projects.
  • Contributing knowledge and expertise to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant reliability and efficiency.
  • Identifying recurring problems and helping to implement long-term solutions.
  • Communicating clearly with production staff and colleagues to ensure smooth operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with all site health and safety procedures, reporting incidents and near misses, and maintaining high safety standards at all times.
What We're Looking For
  • A recognised qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering (e.g. C&G, NVQ, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in both mechanical and electrical trades. Completion of an engineering apprenticeship with indentures is highly desirable.
  • Strong skills in electrical installation and maintenance, as well as mechanical fabrication and maintenance.
  • Electronic fault-finding skills to component level.
  • Working knowledge of other engineering disciplines such as pneumatics, hydraulics, and steam systems.
  • Electrical Installation 18th Edition qualification (preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • A team-oriented approach with the ability to work independently when required.

Shift Pattern

This position follows a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern, with 12-hour shifts alternating between:

  • Days: 05:00 - 17:00
  • Nights: 17:00 - 05:00
