SENIOR THERAPY ASSISTANT - Vascular/Cardiology and Amputee Service

Band 4, Part time: contracted to 33 hours per week worked over 2 alternating weekly shift patterns: week (1) – 4 week days (29.25 hours), week (2) – 4 week days and Saturday (36.75 hours).

The post is based at Hull Royal Infirmary primarily, although there may be an expectation to work offsite at the Artificial Limb Unit on occasion.

This post supports the provision of a vascular therapy service to both inpatients and outpatients across Hull & East Yorkshire & North East Lincolnshire.

This post will support the delivery of a pre and post surgical pathway for vascular patients, and the assessment and rehabilitation of Cardiology inpatients.

The successful candidates will assist in the delivery of effective and timely treatment to a wide range of patients presenting with functional and mobility problems. This will include assessment and assistance with personal cares, provision of wheelchairs and the completion of environmental visits.

In addition the post holders will contribute to delivering pre and post operative education to patients who are to receive surgery.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Assistant you will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of staff of a lower band and provide support to qualified Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists both in direct patient treatment and non-clinical duties associated with the running of the service.

Applicants must possess a relevant qualification equivalent to foundation degree level, and be able to demonstrate evidence of Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy Assistant competencies; plus extensive experience/knowledge of patient conditions and therapeutic interventions. In addition you will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid driving licence, or means of travelling independently in the community

EXPERIENCE
  • Previous/current experience of working in a UK‑based therapy assistant / Occupational Therapy assistant / Physiotherapy assistant role with demonstrable evidence of completion of competencies
  • Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrable knowledge of NHS discharge processes
Skills, knowledge and ability
  • Demonstrates a good basic understanding of the Senior Therapy Assistant role being applied for and able to articulate this in the application
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good communication skills both with colleagues and service users
  • Knowledge of common vascular and cardiology conditions
  • Basic computer and electronic record‑keeping skills
