Job description
Overview

We have positions available for different specialties. We are now looking for Scrub Practitioners that wish to step up to the next level in their career and have an interest working with children whilst undergoing their surgery. Previous experience within Paediatric Surgery is desirable but not essential as you will be given training and support by the Perioperative Team to develop new skills to equip you in the Paediatric setting. As a department we have an expert Practice Education Team who support our Peri-operative Team to help teach, develop, and strengthen these skills in order to support your ongoing professional development.

GOSH runs a 24hr emergency theatre service 7 days a week and therefore employees are required to work the following shift patterns.

  • Early - 8am to 6pm
  • Late - 10am to 8pm
  • Early Late - 8am to 8pm
  • A On Call - 8pm to 8am (response time 30 minutes)
  • B On Call - 8pm to 8am (response time 1 hour)
  • Night - 8pm to 8am
Responsibilities
  • To be a clinical expert within the specialty.
  • To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for the children, young people and their families at all times.
  • Ensure that each child or young person is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated.
  • Ensure the provision of appropriate supervision and support to members of the ward team.
  • Support the provision of effective communication between all members of the multidisciplinary team, other hospital departments, relatives and visitors.
  • Act as a team leader for a group of nurses, acting as a mentor/preceptor, and facilitating their development through challenge and support.
  • To lead and co-ordinate team projects and team building activities.
  • Participate in the process of recruitment and retention of staff.
  • Promote and support the improving working lives philosophy, and initiatives.
  • To contribute to the appraisal process, and if required disciplinary activities.
  • To actively assist in the education and practical training of learners, junior staff and multidisciplinary team members at every opportunity, through formal and informal teaching.
  • Ensure the provision of and access to appropriate mentors for student nurses and provide a supportive and challenging environment for students in training.
  • Participate in the audit of the clinical learning environment.
  • Supervise and orientate learners, temporary staff and staff new to the area.

Recruitment process
  • The recruitment process for all admin and clerical roles at Bands 2-4 will be a two stage recruitment process whereby shortlisted candidates will undertake an online literacy, numeracy, ICT and typing test. Only those candidates who pass the competency test will proceed to a formal interview.
