Job description

Location: London, UK (or Amsterdam, Netherlands)

Type: Full-Time (International hire via PEO)

Team: Legal – Regulatory, Litigation & Compliance

Reports to: VP & Deputy General Counsel

  • Lead regulatory engagement across the UK, EU, and Australia, particularly focused on online safety, content moderation, and platform compliance.
  • Respond to regulatory requests: organize data, draft responses, and represent Discord’s interests.
  • Present to regulators and government bodies (e.g. Ofcom, eSafety Commissioner, EU regulators).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product counsel, public policy, and communications to ensure alignment and legal readiness.
  • Track and interpret evolving laws and enforcement trends: DSA, UK & Australian Online Safety Acts, GDPR, AI Act, etc.
  • Maintain internal guidance docs and templates (for privacy, teen safety, etc.).
  • Possibly manage consumer complaints, legal claims, or small-scale disputes.
  • 10+ years legal experience, preferably in regulatory law involving internet platforms or digital content.
  • Deep knowledge of EU/UK/AU regulatory frameworks:
  • DSA
  • UK & Australian Online Safety Acts
  • GDPR, data protection, and privacy
  • AI governance and consumer protection
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one relevant jurisdiction.
  • Skilled in direct regulator engagement and formal communications (RFI responses, policy position statements).
  • Legal experience within tech, social media, messaging, gaming, or communications platforms.
  • Excellent judgment, emotional intelligence, and project ownership skills.
  • Proven ability to balance legal compliance and business strategy.
  • Experience with Discord or gaming platforms.
  • Litigation background.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and fast-paced change.
  • Experience in cross-border legal strategy.
