Job summary

A family-owned Civil Engineering and Groundworks Contractor based in Ipswich is looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor. The ideal candidate will have over 7 years of experience in the construction industry, strong leadership and negotiation skills, and be capable of managing projects from inception to completion. Responsibilities include overseeing cost management, engaging with clients and teams, and mentoring junior staff. The role offers a competitive salary package of up to £90,000 annually.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry.
  • Proven background working for a main contractor or subcontractor.
  • Experience managing projects from tender stage to final account.
  • Track record of mentoring junior staff and leading commercial teams.

Responsibilities

  • Take full commercial responsibility for assigned projects from inception to completion.
  • Lead cost planning, procurement, and contract administration activities.
  • Prepare and manage bills of quantities, valuations, and cost reports.
  • Oversee subcontractor tendering, appointment, and management.
  • Assess variations, value engineering options, and project risks.
  • Manage interim valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
  • Liaise effectively with clients, design teams, and senior leadership.
  • Mentor and support junior Quantity Surveyors and commercial staff.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and industry regulations.

Skills

Excellent commercial and contractual knowledge (JCT, NEC, or Design & Build forms)
Strong negotiation, leadership, and communication skills
Exceptional analytical and numerical ability
Proficient in Microsoft Office and cost management software

We are currently searching for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join an extremely busy, family-owned Civil Engineering & Groundworks Contractor headquartered in Ipswich. Due to organic growth and several busy years in front of them, they are looking to bolster their commercial team and bring in a seasoned Senior Quantity Surveyor.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing complex projects from tender through to final account, with strong leadership and negotiation skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take full commercial responsibility for assigned projects from inception to completion.
  • Lead cost planning, procurement, and contract administration activities.
  • Prepare and manage bills of quantities, valuations, and cost reports.
