About The Role

Our Healthy Child Programme has had a fantastic year. Streamlined, adaptable to population need and growing in success. Are you the person to make sure that continues? Your role’s scope will be wide ranging at times, predominantly leading on aspects of the Healthy Child Programme and associated children’s health and well‑being. This gives us a further opportunity to see real improvements to child health, ensuring families are more resilient, children get the best start in life, are school ready and have a successful transition into adulthood.

As the Senior Public Health Officer placed in the Public Health team, you’ll be ready to lead a wide range of public health themes, initially around the Children & Young People’s agenda. You’ll have experience ensuring effective outcomes, meeting the ambition of the service delivery plan and drive innovation. With the ability to work autonomously, you’ll be confident with commissioning, budget and project management, assessing needs and assimilating and reporting public health evidence, partnership working and stakeholder engagement.

Our wider team is dynamic and friendly with a legacy of successful contribution to the borough's priorities and the regional public health agenda. If you think you’ll thrive in this environment, we look forward to your application.

We’re a positive, friendly team that all want to play our part in making health everyone’s business. We are diligent and pragmatic, and we work hard to embody the Council’s core values in our daily business.

We’re looking for an accomplished Public Health leader with experience and ideas. We want someone who will take a running start, be ready to support the Senior Strategist and rapidly deliver projects. Specific experience in the field of sexual and reproductive health and children’s services is highly desirable, as is adaptability to deliver other thematic areas.

You’ll be actively involved in leading a variety of projects and contribute to the wider public health agenda. There’s an expectation that you’ll have a positive approach and can demonstrate teamwork, supporting junior staff, owning challenges and finding solutions.

Reporting to the Senior Strategist, the post will give you the autonomy to manage contracts, undertake analysis to recommend strategy and plan and implement projects. You’ll be highly motivated, creative in your thinking, and persistent in adversity. You’ll be open to learning from others and motivated to ensure services deliver for the local population.
