Job description

About the Role:

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Social Work Advanced Practitioner to join the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) Academy. This role offers a unique opportunity to support the professional development of newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) during their first year in practice. The ASYE Academy plays a critical role in helping new social workers transition from education to the workplace, providing them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to deliver high-quality services to children, families, and vulnerable adults.

As an Advanced Practitioner, you will be responsible for mentoring, coaching, and supervising a cohort of NQSWs, ensuring they receive the structured support and guidance necessary to develop into confident and competent practitioners. You will oversee their progress through the ASYE programme, ensuring they meet their milestones and are equipped with the tools to succeed. This role is pivotal in developing the future workforce and ensuring that the highest standards of social work practice are upheld.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision and mentorship to newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) within the ASYE Academy, ensuring they are supported and guided throughout their first year of practice.
  • Oversee and monitor the progress of NQSWs through the ASYE programme, ensuring that all practice standards are met and that they achieve the required competencies.
  • Deliver group supervision sessions, workshops, and individual coaching to support the professional development of NQSWs.
  • Work closely with team managers and other professionals to ensure the NQSWs receive a comprehensive induction and are exposed to a range of social work practices.
  • Assess and evaluate the performance of NQSWs through regular reviews and provide constructive feedback, helping them to reflect on their practice and identify areas for development.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the ASYE programme, ensuring it is aligned with national standards and local priorities.
  • Support the integration of theory into practice, helping NQSWs to apply their academic knowledge in real-world social work situations.
  • Provide expert advice on complex cases, offering guidance and support where necessary to ensure safe and effective practice.
  • Ensure all NQSWs are aware of and adhere to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, including the Children Act (1989), Care Act (2014), and Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018).
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of NQSW progress and achievements, ensuring compliance with Social Work England standards and local authority requirements.
  • Facilitate reflective practice sessions, encouraging NQSWs to critically evaluate their work and develop their professional judgement.
  • Act as a role model for best practice, demonstrating high standards of professionalism, ethics, and dedication to safeguarding vulnerable people.
  • Participate in and contribute to quality assurance processes, ensuring that the ASYE programme is continually improving and responsive to the needs of NQSWs.
  • Liaise with learning and development teams to provide opportunities for additional training and support to enhance the skills and knowledge of NQSWs.
  • Keep up to date with current trends in social work practice, research, and policy changes, ensuring these are reflected in the support provided to NQSWs.

About You:

The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced social worker with a passion for developing the next generation of social work professionals. You will have a thorough understanding of the challenges faced by NQSWs and the ability to provide effective supervision, coaching, and support. Your role as an Advanced Practitioner will be key in helping NQSWs transition from education to practice while maintaining high standards of care and safeguarding.

  • Qualified Social Worker with a degree in Social Work (or equivalent qualification) recognised by Social Work England.
  • Current registration with Social Work England.
  • Substantial post-qualification experience in social work, with a strong understanding of the challenges and complexities faced by NQSWs.
  • Proven experience in mentoring, supervising, or managing social workers or other staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of social work practice and legislation, including the Children Act (1989), Care Act (2014), and Social Work England standards.
  • Excellent assessment and decision-making skills, particularly in relation to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.
  • Strong understanding of the ASYE framework and experience in supporting newly qualified social workers through structured programmes.
  • Experience of working within a multi-agency environment, collaborating with partners such as health, education, and the voluntary sector.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback and facilitate reflective practice.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice, both for yourself and those you support.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

What’s in it for You?

  • An opportunity to shape the future of social work by supporting and developing newly qualified professionals.
  • Access to high-quality supervision and professional development to enhance your own leadership and mentoring skills.
  • A competitive salary and benefits package, including flexible working options and a generous annual leave allowance.
  • The chance to work in a collaborative and supportive environment, where your role will have a direct impact on the quality of social work practice.
  • Opportunities for career progression within a growing service that values professional development and innovation.

Why Join the Team?
