Senior Police Prosecutor

Location: Hybrid / Courts (Norfolk & Suffolk)

Department: Criminal Justice Services (CJS)

Reporting to: Traffic Justice Service Manager

We are looking for a Senior Police Prosecutor to head up our Joint Police Prosecution Team, delivering a critical service within the Criminal Justice Services department. This is a unique opportunity to shape prosecution strategy, drive performance, and work collaboratively across agencies to ensure justice is served efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Police Prosecution team across Norfolk and Suffolk.
  • Prepare and present prosecution cases in Magistrates’ Courts, including handling legal arguments and defence applications.
  • Plan and coordinate resource deployment to maximise court slot usage.
  • Liaise with Legal Advisors, Court Responders, and external agencies including the Motor Insurance Bureau.
  • Ensure case quality, identify deficiencies, and guide further evidence gathering.
  • Provide feedback to officers and CJS teams to improve case building.
  • Uphold data protection standards and maintain professional communication with all stakeholders.
  • Set clear expectations and support staff development aligned with departmental goals.
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience in prosecution or legal casework, ideally within a policing or criminal justice environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and partnership working abilities.
  • Confidence in court presentation and legal argumentation.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement
Essential Criteria
  1. Experience of managing a team across multiple sites, developing staff and driving performance to achieve exceptional standards of service delivery with a ‘first time resolution’ approach to customer service demonstrating an ability to manage resources effectively to ensure resilience and mitigate operational risks.
  2. Experience of working in a Traffic Justice Environment.
  3. Experience of collaborative working with internal stakeholders and external partners to resolve problems and deliver operational change.
  4. Evidenced application of problem-solving and decision-making skills in a business / Public Service environment.
  5. Highly developed communication skills with the ability to liaise, negotiate and influence effectively at all levels.
  6. Experience of dealing with HR challenges fairly and consistently in line with organisational policy.
  7. Ability to travel as required across Norfolk and Suffolk.
Desirable Criteria
  1. Knowledge of current Road Traffic Legislation and rules of evidence
  2. Knowledge of Court procedures and protocols with previous experience of presenting evidence
