Overview

SENIOR PLANNING OFFICER (Ref: SPO)

Salary £46,233.72 pa. Contract: Full-time, Permanent. A busy and progressive local authority in Hertfordshire is seeking an experienced Senior Planning Officer to join their Development Management service. Located close to Greater London, the authority faces several development issues, and this post plays an important role managing applications for a range of development proposals. The postholder will play their part in delivering high quality housing and economic growth, whilst maintaining Broxbourne as an attractive place to live, work and visit.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a varied personal caseload including a proportion of major, complex and other planning applications for sites across the Borough.
  • Present reports on behalf of the Service to the Planning and Regulatory Committee.
  • Assist and mentor junior officers and technicians and provide advice and guidance where required.
  • Work in partnership with planning colleagues, developers, agents, elected Members and other stakeholders to support the Development Management service.
  • Operate with a sound working knowledge of the development management process, with a positive attitude and a commitment to delivering solutions.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Eligible for membership of the RTPI, ideally with a minimum of 3 years of development management experience.
  • Excellent analytical and negotiation skills; good oral and written communication.
  • Ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English.
  • Ability to work efficiently under own initiative and in partnership with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Full driving licence and the ability to undertake site visits and inspections.
