Job description– Senior Medical Writer (Evidence Synthesis and Data Communication Specialist)
Role purpose

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Medical Writer to join our team, with a strong emphasis on evidence utilisation through systematic literature reviews (SLRs), targeted literature reviews (TLRs), and other structured datasets. The ideal candidate will bring rigour to data collection and interpretation, paired with a curiosity for how data can be communicated most effectively to support decision-making and engagement.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about transforming complex data into clear, compelling narratives — someone who can uncover the story within the data and present it in a way that resonates with diverse audiences.

Essential experience and skills
  • Evidence synthesis and literature reviews:
    • Proven experience conducting systematic and targeted literature reviews (SLRs, TLRs, and others)
    • Strong capability in designing and managing structured data extraction frameworks for publications
    • Well-versed in PRISMA and Good Publication Practice standards
    • Working knowledge of referencing software (e.g., EndNote or Mendeley)
  • Data handling and process leadership:
    • Experienced in driving methodological consistency across medical writing teams to ensure alignment and quality
    • Skilled in training, mentoring, and guiding others to maintain high standards and adhere to established processes
  • Data communication and storytelling:
    • Ability to distil complex, multi-dimensional datasets into clear, audience-ready outputs
    • Expertise in translating data into impactful visual and digital formats, including infographics and interactive displays, to enhance accessibility and engagement
    • Experience developing data-driven materials for effective communication, particularly for MSLs and HCPs
  • Cross-functional collaboration:
    • Collaborative experience working across data, digital, and design teams to deliver integrated solutions
    • Experience in guiding clients on appropriate methods of data communication, resulting in clear understanding from the customer’s perspective
    • Solutions-focused mindset with a strong ability to understand the broader strategic context and align outputs with organisational goals
  • Digital, AI and platform curiosity:
    • Curious and open-minded about how digital tools and AI can enhance review processes, data analysis, and communication
    • Actively contributes to the evolution of internal platforms and systems, offering ideas to support ongoing optimisation and future innovation
    • Digitally engaged with a strong interest in innovation. No coding expertise required, but a willingness to explore and shape new approaches is key
  • Personal attributes:
    • Collaborative and approachable, with strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset
    • Driven by curiosity and a desire to push boundaries, exploring new approaches and championing innovation
    • Pragmatic and solutions-focused, with the ability to balance attention to detail with a clear understanding of the broader strategic context.
Desirable experience and skills
Data interpretation and communication
  • Demonstrated use of data visualisation and digital storytelling tools to translate information into accessible formats
  • Interest in behavioural science and behavioural economics principles to enhance data engagement and communication
Technical and analytical exposure
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel for data extraction and analysis – logical mindset and willingness to engage with structured data are key. Willingness to work within database structures is desired
  • Exposure to digital tools and programming languages such as HTML, JSON, Python, and VBA
  • Previous exposure to statistical software (e.g. SPSS, R)
  • Experience conducting or supporting meta-analyses
  • Familiarity with real-world evidence (RWE) generation and its applications in healthcare
Collaborative and process-oriented
  • Reliable contributor to review database development, supporting consistency and accuracy in collaboration with writing and data teams
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory and compliance elements of medical communications (ABPI, GDPR, Copyright).
