Job description

You play a pivotal role within the finance function of a fast-paced retail group with over 40 years of experience in the toy industry. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you take ownership of a key area of group finance, ensuring accurate, timely, and insightful financial information is delivered to support strategic decision-making across the business.

  1. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of management accountants, setting clear objectives, conducting regular performance reviews, and supporting professional growth.
  2. Manage the outsourced management accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services in line with agreed SLAs.
  3. Effectively allocate tasks within the team, ensuring high-quality output and fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  4. Act as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders and the outsourced team, proactively resolving issues and driving continuous improvement.
  5. Prepare and review monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery.

This position is based at our Head Office in Amersham. You must live within a reasonable distance to the office or be willing to relocate by the role commencement date.

Job Purpose: Alongside your core accounting responsibilities, you place a strong emphasis on team leadership and outsourced team management. You use your communication, coordination, and people management skills to keep the team aligned, engaged, and working effectively together.

You are a confident, forward-thinking, and hands-on finance professional with strong leadership capabilities. You take responsibility for managing and developing both internal and outsourced finance teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. As a key member of the finance function, you take pride in delivering high-quality financial reporting and analysis, while actively driving operational excellence. Your attention to detail and proactive approach ensure the Group consistently meets all compliance, reporting, and performance requirements in a fast-paced and ambitious retail environment.

Skills & Experience
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams
  • Ability to manage, lead, develop and coach a team.
  • Full UK, valid driver's licence.
  • Experience in managing, mentoring, and developing finance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of management accounts, investigating variances, and providing actionable insights.
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements in financial processes.
