Role overview

We are looking for a highly capable and collaborative Senior Pricing Manager to drive the development of advanced data science solutions that support Hastings’ market-leading pricing strategies for Home insurance products.

This role leads a mixed team of Actuaries and Data Scientists, working together to develop peril models, feeder models, and risk scores that underpin pricing and underwriting decisions across our Home insurance portfolio.

The team plays a critical role in supporting the growth of our Buildings Only, Contents Only, and Combined (Buildings + Contents) offerings, ensuring each is priced accurately and competitively.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a cross-functional team of Actuaries and Data Scientists, fostering collaboration and innovation in the development of pricing models and risk-based analytics.
  • Oversee the creation and refinement of peril models, feeder models, and risk scores to support pricing and underwriting strategies for our Home book.
  • Drive the expansion and success of single cover products, and alternative pricing strategies, ensuring they are as robust and competitive as our combined product.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders across Underwriting, Pricing, and Account Management to ensure models are aligned with business needs and regulatory expectations.
  • Mentor and support team members in their technical and professional development.
  • Champion the use of modern machine learning techniques to enhance traditional actuarial approaches and deliver commercial value.
  • Communicate complex modelling outcomes to senior stakeholders and influence decision-making across the business.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Essential skills/experience
  • Strong technical modelling skills, with experience in both traditional actuarial methods and modern machine learning.
  • Proven track record of delivering commercial value through data science in an insurance context.
  • Deep understanding of home insurance pricing, including peril-based modelling and funding considerations. Experience in other general insurance lines of business will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across functions and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-relevant insights and influence across functions
