Health, Safety, Fire & Environmental Officer

Location: Mildenhall, Suffolk
Salary: Up to £55,000 DOE
Hours: Mon-Fri, full-time

Overview

An established manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Health, Safety, Fire & Environmental Officer to oversee HSE compliance across a high‑risk production environment. This role will lead audits, risk assessments, investigations, and contractor management while supporting continuous improvement and a positive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide HSE advice to managers, employees, and contractors
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and maintain compliance records
  • Produce reports, action plans, and follow up on corrective measures
  • Review contractor RAMS and ensure safe working practices
  • Lead risk assessments (Health, Safety & Fire) across site operations
  • Investigate incidents/near misses and recommend improvements
  • Deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks, and training programmes
  • Support regulatory audits and liaise with external bodies
  • Ensure safe storage/transport of materials and products
  • Drive ongoing improvements to HSE processes and systems
Requirements
  • 3‑5+ years' experience in a manufacturing or high‑risk environment
  • Strong understanding of UK HSE legislation
  • NEBOSH Diploma (preferred) or equivalent qualification
  • Experience with internal audits, risk assessments, and incident investigation
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and reporting skills
  • Confident working independently and collaboratively
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel
Desirable
  • Experience with explosive regulations or high‑hazard industries
  • Environmental qualification
  • Background in complex technical or regulated manufacturing
