Senior Field Telecoms Engineer (284DM) – London-Heathrow – £42,000-£45,000 DOE.
Our client, a successful multinational corporation, is looking for a Senior Field Engineer to join a team consisting of the Principal, System & Service Engineers.
Team Responsibilities
- Remedial Maintenance – Respond to customer‐reported incidents via the NOC within an SLA framework, ensuring all incidents are resolved or service restored within SLA.
- Ensure customer requests (Moves, Adds, Changes or Terminations) are delivered within expected timeframes.
- Preventative Maintenance – Complete scheduled customer service visits, including equipment audits, triage, cosmetic repairs and programming.
- Vehicle Installations – Install communication equipment into motorised and non‑motorised vehicles.
- Radio signal strength coverage testing.
- Project delivery – Assist with system engineering tasks as required, within agreed timescales and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure overall service performance meets customer SLA targets.
- Act as first escalation point at Heathrow.
- Accurately record and report as required.
- Plan and deliver large‑scale service projects.
- Attend and complete all service/incident tickets on the company ticketing system within SLA.
- Perform vehicle radio work: installation, decommissioning and service response.
- Deliver all Moves, Additions and Changes (MACs).
- Complete preventative maintenance visits, programming and refurbishment of company assets to satisfactory standards.
- Carry out visual, functional and RF power tests and remedial adjustments, both routine and during outages.
- Assist field engineers on site and remotely in fault‑finding and issue resolution.
- Support engineering projects and meet agreed timescales and industry standards.
- Be flexible to work out‑of‑hours when required for project delivery.
- Document all requested project activity as required.
- Maintain customer satisfaction targets and objectives.
- Follow HR procedures and ensure compliance with SHEQ and all legal requirements.
- Adhere to the company BMS and operator's manual.
- Submit timesheets and expenses promptly.
- Collaborate with peers for optimal delivery.
- Engage in continuous learning and development within a fast‑changing technical environment.
- Promote company departments and products.
- Keep company vehicles clean and presentable.
- Complete all required training, including customer‑specific site requirements for access.
Key Qualifications and Experience
- Strong understanding of RF engineering: modulation techniques, RF propagation, antennas and filtering.
- Experience with digital and analog radio systems (DMR, TETRA, P25, LTE/5G MCX, SDR).
- Knowledge of radio base‑station architectures: repeaters, gateways, controllers and network backhaul.
- Experience with public safety, commercial or private radio networks (DMR Tier II/III, TETRA, P25, LTE/5G MCX).
- Ability to analyse coverage, interference, handover and system capacity issues.
- Familiarity with base‑station transmit/receive chains, power amplifiers, duplexers, combiners and tower‑mounted equipment.
- Understanding of IP networking concepts used in modern radio infrastructure (VLANs, QoS, routing, firewalls).
- Availability to travel and stay away from home for several nights/weeks (not weekly).
- Experience with remote monitoring and diagnostics using NMS.
- Extensive knowledge of programming handheld & mobile devices, including code plug development.
- Strong documentation skills: schematics, test reports, design notes.
- Experience using RF test equipment (spectrum analysers, network analysers, oscilloscopes, signal generators).
- Experience in vehicle installations.
- Knowledge of fibre‑connected systems.
- Excellent verbal & written communication and client‑facing skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Clean manual driving licence.
- Experience handling high‑pressure service delivery with strict SLAs.
- 5‑year employment/gap history for airside pass eligibility.
- SC clearance advantageous.
- Knowledge of Wi‑Fi installation and maintenance advantageous.
- Awareness of health & safety requirements for radio sites (RF exposure, working at heights, electrical safety).
- Understanding of spectrum licensing, regulatory limits and compliance for high‑power transmitters.
