You will work at a “Registrar / ST3+ level” and will generally work for a consultant team. You will be involved in the pre- and post-operative care of the patients, together with the appropriate theatre sessions and clinics. You will be involved in the care of all the patients in the Cardiothoracic unit when on-call. In theatre, you will assist in operations and may perform supervised surgeries and procedures depending on your level of experience. Our department is a busy, high-performing cardiothoracic surgical unit and a major regional referral centre, including major trauma, serving a large and diverse geographical area. The unit has an excellent reputation for managing complex and high-risk cases with outstanding clinical outcomes.

The surgical team comprises 9 consultant adult cardiac surgeons, 4 congenital cardiac surgeons, and 6 thoracic surgeons, supported by a strong multidisciplinary team including 18 registrars, 13 senior house officers, advanced nurse practitioners, surgical care practitioners and nurse case managers. The department operates on a firm-based structure that fosters continuity, mentorship and close collaboration within the team.
