Overview

Established 90 years ago, our client is recognised as a market leading mechanical and electrical contractor throughout London and the south east. They specialise in commercial office and datacentre projects and also work in public, retail, health, education, leisure, residential and pharmaceutical sectors. Their experience ranges from small work contracts circa £500k to major projects in excess of £40M. They have strong client relationships which lead to repeat business. Notable clients include main contractors such as Lendlease, Sir Robert McAlpine, ISG and McLaren, and end users including UBS and King’s College London. With improving market conditions, the business has recently secured new projects and their 2026 turnover is expected to be in the region of £375M+. The group is actively recruiting for their operational team.

Role

Senior M&E Project Manager – Salary up to £90,000 (DOE) + £5,000 Car Allowance + Full Travel Expenses + Pension (4%/8%) + Private Healthcare + Bonus

Project

Based in Hemel Hempstead, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing a £10M project. Reporting to a project director, the role will be supported by a team of construction managers and supervisors. The candidate will take the project from pre-construction through to handover. Relationship management, team coordination and project reporting are key to the position. The project is a New Build data centre in Hemel Hempstead, with an MEP value in the region of £30M, within a large multidisciplinary team and alongside other project managers.

Role/Responsibilities

• Tender review/validation
• Design management (reviewing design, liaising with client, main contractor and consultants)
• Procurement of subcontractors, kit and plant
• Technical submittals
• RFIs – liaison with client team, main contractor and sub contractors
• Value engineering where applicable
• Programming of works – using MS Project or Asta Project
• Health & Safety management (RAMs)
• Commercial responsibility, assisting with subcontractor variation accounts working alongside project QS
• Management of variations
• Team coordination (overseeing junior engineers, construction managers and supervisors)
• Progress meetings with sub-contractors, client and internal meetings
• Overseeing commissioning stages
• Formulation of OM Manuals and client handover

The ideal candidate

• Will be familiar with working in a fast-paced environment
• Experience working in the data centre sector
• Experience managing projects to a minimum of £5M within your own discipline
• A minimum 5 years' experience in a management role
• Ideally the candidate will have subcontracted to main contractors such as ISg, Lend Lease, Sir Robert McAlpine and Mace
• The candidate will show longevity in previous employment
