About the Role
You will play a pivotal role in driving Farnell’s Agile and DevOps transformation, modernizing our build/release pipelines, and ensuring the stability and performance of our transactional websites. This Senior DevOps Engineer will collaborate closely with Agile Scrum teams, Site Reliability Engineers, and the broader technology organization to deliver high‑value features more quickly.
Responsibilities
- Shape the future technology stack and influence new technology adoption such as Docker, OpenShift, AKS, Node.js, GraphQL, and Ansible.
- Implement Agile/DevOps best practices throughout the entire SDLC in collaboration with Agile Scrum teams.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve performance and reliability issues on live websites together with SREs.
- Extend the Agile/DevOps way of working to other parts of the stack, including ERP and associated integrations.
- Lead the migration from on‑prem to cloud‑based Azure solutions.
- Build and deploy applications using Git, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, WCBD, Maven, and Ant within a Java Enterprise environment.
- Utilize Dynatrace for application performance monitoring.
- Apply in‑depth knowledge of Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD best practices.
- Administer Unix/Linux environments, scripting with Bash, Python/Jython, Perl, YAML, and AWK.
- Deploy and configure Java application servers on‑prem and in the cloud (IBM WebSphere or Oracle WebLogic).
- Provision infrastructure as code using Ansible and Terraform.
- Solve complex technical problems to drive business and customer value.
- Communicate effectively to build solid relationships with all levels of the business.
Qualifications
- Solid technical experience building and deploying applications with Git, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and related tools.
- Experience in a Java Enterprise environment, including deployment/configuration of WebSphere or WebLogic.
- Proficiency with Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD best practices.
- Strong Unix/Linux system administration and scripting skills.
- Hands‑on experience with infrastructure as code and provisioning tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships at all business levels.
