The role

Ocho is working with a fast‑growing, security‑focused technology scaleup building advanced hardware and cloud software used by high‑profile organisations across security, services and public safety.

They are now hiring a Senior Engineer in Test to take ownership of testing strategy and execution across the entire platform. This is not a box‑ticking QA role. It is a senior engineering position where quality is designed in from day one, not checked at the end.

You will be a hands‑on technical leader, driving automated testing, influencing engineering practices, and helping embed a true shift‑left quality culture across the organisation.

What you’ll be doing

Test strategy and ownership

• Own and evolve the automated testing strategy across unit, integration, system and end‑to‑end testing
• Set and maintain the quality bar for a complex, distributed platform
• Identify gaps and prioritise improvements based on risk and impact
• Champion best practices and embed quality thinking across engineering teams

Automated testing and frameworks

• Design, build and maintain robust automated testing frameworks
• Extend and improve an existing TypeScript, Playwright‑based end‑to‑end test suite
• Build and maintain integration and API tests for Java Spring microservices
• Ensure tests are fast, reliable and CI‑friendly, using metrics and data to guide improvements

• Test distributed, microservice‑based systems running in AWS
• Validate service‑to‑service interactions, async workflows and event‑driven behaviour
• Ensure testing approaches scale as the platform grows globally

What we’re looking for

• 5+ years’ experience in test engineering or quality‑focused engineering roles
• Strong engineering background with hands‑on, production‑quality test code
• Experience testing Java Spring applications and microservice architectures
• Hands‑on experience with end‑to‑end testing frameworks, ideally Playwright
• Experience testing APIs, integrations and distributed systems
• Familiarity with AWS and cloud‑native environments
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines
