Overview

Are you a highly skilled CT diagnostic radiographer seeking an opportunity to make a difference in cancer care? The Christie Hospital is one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe and a world-renowned centre for research and education. As a diagnostic radiographer, you will play a crucial role in the accurate and timely diagnosis of cancer patients, collaborating with radiologists, oncologists, and healthcare professionals, performing a range of CT procedures using state-of-the-art equipment and techniques.

These procedures include, but are not limited to, complex CT-guided biopsies, ablations, and drainages. Your expertise will contribute directly to the development of tailored treatment plans for patients, helping to optimise their outcomes and overall experience.

Responsibilities

• Undertake CT imaging and support the Clinical Specialists in the efficient delivery of the clinical service.
• Participate in CPD and other developmental activities.
• Clinical supervision of radiography students.
• Assist in radiographer-led screening for Pulmonary Embolism in CT (where applicable) and vetting/protocoling CT requests as part of your extended scope of practice.
• Work with radiologists, clinical specialists and other senior staff to review working practices and identify improvements.
• Engage in extended day and weekend working as required.

Training and Development

You will be provided with training to extend your scope of practice by participating in radiographer-led screening for Pulmonary Embolisms in CT, as well as vetting and protocolling CT requests. You will be supported to access professional development and educational opportunities through The Christie School of Oncology.

Communication requirements

• Ensure effective communication between Diagnostic Radiology staff, students, Medical Physics staff, clinicians, nursing staff and other teams involved in the scanning service.
• Explain complex information related to examinations to patients and support their cooperation, accommodating patients with learning difficulties or other disabilities.
• Participate in departmental research and audit as required.

Teaching / Training requirements

• Take an active role in the training of qualified radiographers, radiography students and students from other disciplines including visiting engineers and clinical trainee staff.
• Maintain expertise in intravenous cannulation techniques.
• Participate in the departmental continuing professional development programme, including appraisal and personal development planning.

Analytical skills

• Assess patient condition in relation to the risk of intravenous contrast medium examination protocols.
• Adapt radiological techniques and protocols according to the patient’s condition.

General duties

• Supervision of junior radiographic staff, students and radiographic aides as required.
• Maintain imaging standards set by the department.
• Record and report faults in equipment, fixtures, fittings or fabric and comply with Health and Safety regulations and moving and handling policies.
• Ensure adherence to radiation protection measures (local rules, ionising radiation regulations, IR(ME)R, dose reduction strategies).

To work with Radiologists, Clinical Specialist Radiographers and other senior staff in the department to review working practices and identify new ways of working and solutions to problems.
