Job Summary

Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust has developed close links with Aston University and this has led to the development of a teacher-practitioner post between the Department of Psychiatric Pharmacy at Aston and the Trust.

Due to upcoming maternity leave, there is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified and motivated clinical psychiatric pharmacist to work on the psychiatric pharmacy courses at Aston University, whilst at the same time continuing to develop their clinical skills and initiating a programme of practice research in the treatment of mental illness. The successful post holder will be well organised and highly motivated with, or currently working towards, the Diploma in Psychiatric Pharmacy or equivalent. They will also have excellent I.T. skills. Experience of writing, publication and mentoring will also be an advantage.

Main Duties of the Job
BSMHFT
  • Provision of clinical pharmacy service to both inpatient and community teams
  • Pharmacy support for mental health services and to develop existing and new service opportunities
Aston University
  • Assist the course tutor in the development and running of postgraduate and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes in psychiatric therapeutics and psychiatric pharmacy
  • Assist in raising the profile of mental illness and psychiatric pharmacy at undergraduate level
  • Participate in undergraduate and OSPAP teaching when the opportunity arises and time permits
Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical pharmacy input to wards and departments and further development of these services, including active contribution at ward rounds, case conferences and other clinical meetings
  • Provide expert advice on pharmacy related matters
  • Provide expert clinical advice on all medicine related matters
  • Support the development of the clinical pharmacy service to clinical teams across service programmes and divisions
  • Participate in the supervision and development of clinical pharmacists in their roles as members of clinical teams within the service programmes
  • Assist the course tutor in the development and running of the PG and CPD programmes in psychiatric therapeutics and psychiatric pharmacy
  • Assist in raising the profile of mental illness and psychiatric pharmacy at undergraduate level
  • Participate in undergraduate and OSPAP teaching when the opportunity arises and time permits
Person Specification – Training and Qualifications (Essential)
  • MRPharmS or equivalent registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Psychiatric Therapeutics
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Psychiatric Pharmacy (or equivalent) or currently working towards
