Overview

Paediatrics & Neonates Clinical Fellow (Registrar) post
0.6 WTE
Based at Newham University Hospital
The successful candidate will work in the Women and Children’s division at NUH, which is part of the Barts Health NHS Trust; one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK.

Responsibilities
  • Ward rounds, providing cover to ambulatory unit, participating in outpatient clinics and A&E, providing cover to labour ward and postnatal ward, all with consultant supervision under a consultant-of-the-week system.
  • Work as part of the clinical team to manage a busy paediatric and neonatal service.
On Call
  • Full shift system, 7-person rota, providing cover to NICU, delivery suite, and postnatal/paediatric wards or A&E. Separate Registrar rota for Paediatric and Neonatal services at all levels including Consultants, Registrar and SHOs.
Audit and Research
  • Participate fully in the departmental audit programme, aid in developing clinical services guidelines, and support SHOs in these activities. Participation in clinical research related to service delivery will be encouraged and facilitated. A Research Registrar is in post and takes responsibility for audits and research.

Location and Population

The Paediatric rainbow centre is a busy department serving a deprived and young paediatric population. It includes a 21-bed paediatric ward with 7 cubicles, a two-bed high-dependency unit, a 6-bed day care ward for minor day surgery for children over 3 years old, a 6-bed observational unit, and 23 beds including 2 intensive and 4 HDU care beds. The Level II Neonatal unit cares for babies born at more than 27 weeks, with collaborative work as part of a network with the Royal London Hospital tertiary unit. The post is based at Newham University Hospital, providing acute general paediatrics and neonatal services to one of Britain’s most diverse and fastest-growing populations.
