Fixed Term, Full-time 40 hours per week. Nodal Point 4/5 dependant upon experience. Start date: 5 January 2026.

Organisation context

The Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Department at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital offers a tertiary Children’s Orthopaedic Service for South London and surrounding counties. The hospital also provides paediatric trauma, a neonatal developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) screening service and a Ponseti clinic. The fellowship attracts Royal College and PMETB training approval. Specialist tertiary services include management of adolescent hip problems, a developing paediatric knee injury service, limb deformity service, skeletal dysplasia, spina bifida and an extensive neurodisability service with gait laboratory support.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will, under the supervision of relevant consultants, be responsible for the provision of orthopaedic service to the Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital Trust. This will include:

  • Developing skills in the assessment and management of orthopaedic patients in acute and elective children’s services.
  • Further enhancing practical skills in children’s orthopaedic surgery.
  • Gaining understanding of 3-dimensional gait analysis and its contributions to clinical decision making, prognosis and research.
  • Undertaking theatre lists and outpatient clinics with or without supervision.
  • Gaining understanding and appreciation of the contributions of other disciplines involved in children’s orthopaedic care in a multidisciplinary setting sensitive to the needs of the patient and family.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will join a team of 5 Consultants, 2 Specialist Registrars and 3 specialist orthopaedic nurses, and you will be expected to provide an elective orthopaedic and trauma service in conjunction with colleagues. You will participate in clinical and service activities to ensure a high standard of patient care, contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, and help manage the clinical service and service development. The department supports developing your area(s) of clinical interest within a flexible framework.

  • This is a non-on call post, but you will liaise with the trauma team and coordinate cover for internal and regional referrals during weekdays (08:00–17:00).
  • Some staff groups may be asked to work flexible hours to extend services into evenings or weekends to meet patient needs.

The fellowship is a 6-month appointment (note: other parts of the advert reference 7- or 12-month appointments; this should be confirmed with the recruiting team).
