About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior M&E Buyer to join our growing commercial and project delivery teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procuring Mechanical & Electrical materials, equipment, and subcontract packages for commercial, residential, industrial, and / or data centre projects.
You will manage the full procurement cycle—sourcing, negotiating, placing orders, monitoring supplier performance, and ensuring best value across all live projects.
Responsibilities
- Procurement & Purchasing: Lead the end-to-end procurement of M&E materials, plant, and services.
- Manage strategic supplier relationships to ensure competitive pricing, reliability, and quality.
- Identify new suppliers and maintain an approved supplier database.
- Issue enquiries, assess quotations, negotiate terms, and place purchase orders.
- Secure cost savings through negotiation, value engineering, and bulk purchasing.
- Arrange hire equipment, plant, and specialist M&E items as required.
- Commercial & Project Support: Work closely with Project Managers, QSs, Engineers, and the Design Team to understand project requirements.
- Support tender and pre-construction procurement strategies.
- Forecast procurement schedules aligned with project programmes.
- Assist commercial teams with budget management and cost reporting.
- Ensure all materials comply with project specifications and technical requirements.
- Stock, Logistics & Supply Chain: Coordinate delivery schedules to site, ensuring timely and efficient logistics.
- Track and manage back orders and lead times to prevent project delays.
- Oversee material call-off processes and supplier performance.
- Manage returns, warranty claims, and material discrepancies.
- Compliance & Administration: Ensure all procurement activities comply with company procedures and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate order records, delivery notes, pricing files, and expenditure reports.
- Support continuous improvement in procurement processes and digital systems.
Skills & Experience Required
- Essential: 5+ years’ experience as an M&E Buyer within building services or M&E contracting.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical materials, plant, and subcontract procurement.
- Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and M&E specifications.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in procurement / ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
