Job Summary

Options for Care is looking to recruit an exceptional Senior Assistant Psychologist (2-year Fixed Term) passionate about working with individuals with severe and enduring mental health diagnoses. The successful candidate will work at Dartmouth House, a mental health inpatient unit in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham.

Pay: £24,983.00 - £27,983.00. Contract: Fixed term, 2 years, Full time. Reference: E0277-25-0043. Location: 70-72 Handsworth Wood Road, Birmingham B20 2DT.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide psychological assessment, formulation and intervention under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
  • Carry out administrative tasks related to clinical work, such as conducting audits, collecting statistics, and producing reports.
  • Engage in research-related activities, devising and conducting research projects, and assisting in the preparation of findings for publication.
  • Support the development, delivery and evaluation of staff training initiatives.
  • Conduct assessments of adults with complex and enduring mental health difficulties, develop care plans and provide low‑intensity psychological interventions.
  • Assist in managing service users’ risk and problem behaviours, plan and coordinate therapeutic groups, and attend multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Work autonomously within the framework of our policies and procedures, and implement the organisation’s mission, vision and values.
  • Engage in research and service evaluation, develop and co‑facilitate training and education sessions and materials.
Qualifications
  • Psychology degree with a minimum 2:1 honours recognised by the British Psychological Society.
  • At least 12 months experience working with individuals who have mental health challenges and/or learning disabilities, and/or physical health issues or cognitive impairments.
Experience and Personal Qualities

Minimum of 12 months experience with mental health and/or learning disabilities. Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams, strong written and verbal communication skills, commitment to high‑quality service delivery, and capacity for independent decision‑making.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications: Psychology degree with a minimum 2:1 honours recognised by the British Psychological Society.

Essential Experience: Minimum 12 months experience with mental health and/or learning disabilities and/or physical health or cognitive impairments.
