Job summary

A leading education recruitment agency in Manchester is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide essential classroom support for children with Special Educational Needs. The ideal candidate will have experience in UK primary schools, be adaptable and resilient. This is a full-time role focused on creating an inclusive learning environment. You must also possess an Enhanced DBS or be willing to obtain one.

Overview

Axcis Education is seeking an experienced and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 in a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Manchester. This full-time role involves general classroom support with a clear focus on children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including those with more complex needs and behavioural challenges. The role is not exclusively 1:1, but you will adapt your approach to meet individual needs within the classroom. Pupils may present with autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, sensory processing needs, speech and language delays and SEMH challenges. An open-minded, flexible and trauma-informed approach is essential, and safeguarding procedures and child protection knowledge are required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide general classroom support with a focus on SEN to help pupils stay engaged, regulate emotions, and feel safe in school.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and the wider SEN team to implement support strategies.
  • Maintain a calm, consistent, and supportive approach under pressure and apply positive behaviour management techniques.
  • Adapt teaching and support strategies to meet individual pupil needs within a classroom setting.
  • Support safeguarding and child protection procedures in line with school and regulatory requirements.
