Supply Desk is currently seeking a compassionate and motivated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming special school in Watford from September. This is a full-time role, perfect for someone who is passionate about supporting students with a range of special educational needs (SEN), including Autism (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school is committed to delivering a personalised and inclusive curriculum that empowers every student to achieve their full potential in a supportive and nurturing environment.
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN to help them access the curriculum.
Assist in implementing personalised learning plans and strategies based on EHCPs.
Support students with communication, sensory, and behavioural needs using appropriate tools and techniques (e.g. PECS, Makaton, visual schedules).
Encourage student independence, confidence, and social skills through structured routines and positive reinforcement.
Assist the teacher in delivering engaging, adapted lessons and classroom activities.
Help maintain a calm, inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
Support with personal care tasks where necessary, ensuring the dignity and safety of pupils.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to provide consistent and effective support.
Have experience working with children or young people with SEN (preferred but not essential).
Be empathetic, patient, and passionate about supporting students with additional needs.
Be flexible and adaptable to meet the varying needs of pupils.
Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Be resilient and confident in managing challenging behaviours positively and constructively.
Hold or be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS check.
Be open to relevant training (e.g. Autism awareness, safeguarding, de-escalation strategies).
