Overview
Remedy Recruitment is seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Redbridge. This role is ideal for someone who has experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and is eager to make a real difference in pupils' learning and development.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support for pupils with SEN, ensuring they can access the curriculum and engage fully in lessons.
- Work with small groups of children to reinforce learning and support differentiated activities.
- Assist the class teacher in creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Implement strategies recommended by the SENCO and external professionals (e.g., speech and language therapists, educational psychologists).
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, social interaction, and behavioural management, using positive behaviour strategies.
- Help prepare and adapt classroom materials to meet the needs of individual learners.
- Monitor and record pupils' progress, feeding back to teachers and parents when necessary.
- Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence in all pupils.
- Supervise pupils during non-classroom activities, such as playtimes, trips, or group interventions.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or SEN Teaching Assistant in a school setting.
- Understanding of supporting children with SEN, particularly Autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, pupils, and parents.
- Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and calm under pressure.
- A genuine passion for supporting children's education and wellbeing.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ in Supporting Teaching & Learning, Psychology or SEN-related degree) are desirable but not essential.
