A popular, community-focused primary school in Greenwich are looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join their school from January to provide 1 to 1 support for a child.

The Role

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the pupil’s learning, development, and wellbeing throughout the school day. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored 1:1 support to help the pupil access the curriculum and engage in classroom activities
  • Supporting the development of communication skills, including the use of visual aids, PECS, Makaton, or other alternative communication methods
  • Assisting with speech and language development in line with guidance from speech and language therapists
  • Supporting social interaction and emotional regulation, helping the child to build positive relationships with peers and adults
  • Adapting learning materials and activities to meet the child’s individual needs
  • Supporting with personal care where required, including toileting and self-care routines
  • Encouraging independence and confidence through consistent routines and positive reinforcement
  • Monitoring progress and providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCO
  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals to implement individual education and support plans
  • Supporting the child during transitions, playtimes, and other unstructured parts of the school day
