Job description
About The Role

TEACHER – SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS – OPPORTUNITIES BASED IN FRIESTHORPE

Are you looking for a fresh Challenge? At Kisimul we support autistic children who have associated learning disabilities at our day and residential schools in Lincolnshire. We are recruiting for outstanding teachers to join our well established Education Team at schools in Swinderby (LN6) and Friesthorpe (LN3).

We require suitably qualified teachers, or those with relevant SEN experience who we would support to attain QTS, who will create outstanding teaching and learning opportunities for individuals and small groups of pupils (aged between 9 to 18), ensuring a person‑centred approach that is purposeful and meaningful.

Are you:
  • Passionate about making a difference?
  • An imaginative, adaptable teacher and outstanding communicator?
  • Able to lead by example, holding and articulating clear values and moral purpose, and focusing on providing excellent education for all pupils?
  • Passionate in using your knowledge of current theory and practice in teaching and learning, and SEND, to provide a highly effective stimulating and engaging curriculum?
  • A team player with a sense of humour?
  • Able to demonstrate a ‘whatever it takes attitude’ to remove barriers to learning?
  • Have a collaborative ethos, working with colleagues to develop day to day excellence?
  • Creative and flexible, adapting resources and approaches to interest and engage
  • Resilient and able to thrive on the challenge of educating children who other providers have been unable to engage or regulate effectively.

We offer exceptional and diverse teaching opportunities to support our pupils and make their time at school happy and productive, creating an inclusive learning environment where everyone feels valued and respects each other. Our pupils are nurtured to achieve their full personal, social, academic and vocational potential with high expectations and aspirations within high quality learning opportunities which meet individual needs.

No two days are the same so we want teachers who are committed to furthering their knowledge in a demanding but highly rewarding environment. You will encouraged to explore and deliver using innovative approaches based around the interests of our young people.

Whilst previous experience of working in an SEN environment would be desirable, excellent teaching skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and a desire to deliver education that reflects our Meaningful Life ethos are just as important to us. You will be provided with full training, and have the benefit of working alongside our clinical colleagues from Speech and Language, Occupational and Music Therapy to provide a therapeutically informed approach.

*** Visits to the school are actively encouraged and highly advisable ***

What will you be doing?
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships in order to promote the development and effective delivery of the school curriculum and maximise our young people’s achievement.
  • Teaching students according to their educational needs and acknowledging that every interaction counts.
  • Creating a safe and well‑regulated teaching space that will ensure the educational well‑being of individual children within the group.
  • Following agreed and consistent strategies to support young people alongside school, therapeutic services and residential colleagues.
  • Ensuring careful and ongoing assessment of learning to inform further planning and next steps.
  • Ensuring that tasks and activities are matched to the ability of the children—allowing them to make meaningful progress and skills and knowledge that can be applied in real life context.
  • Working within a team of like minded professionals, using team work and humour to ensure a cohesive and supportive education community.
  • Liaising effectively with parents and a wide range of professionals.
