Job summary

A specialized education agency is looking for a part-time SEMH Maths and English tutor based in Honingham, Norfolk. Qualifications

  • Training in Team Teach, MAPA, de-escalation, or similar strategies is a plus.

Overview

Job Title: SEMH Maths and English tutor

Location: Honingham, Norfolk

Pay Rate: £30

Hours: Part-Time | 2 per week

Job Type: Temporary | Term-Time Only

The focus will be on re-engaging the student with learning, building emotional resilience, and developing key functional skills in a safe and structured environment.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver bespoke intervention sessions of English and Maths that support emotional well-being, resilience, and academic re-engagement.
  • Create and maintain a consistent, trusting relationship with the student.
  • Adapt content to meet the student's academic level and emotional needs, with a focus on literacy, numeracy, and life skills.
  • Incorporate Art activities within sessions to promote the student's creativity.
  • Implement strategies that support self-regulation, positive behaviour, and confidence-building.
  • Collaborate with parents/ carers and wider professionals to ensure a cohesive support plan.
  • Track and report on student progress and emotional development regularly.
Requirements
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or similar challenges.
  • Ability to build rapport quickly and establish a safe space for learning.
  • A nurturing, calm, and patient approach to managing behaviour and emotional outbursts.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to get one.
Desirable
  • Background in youth work, PRU's, alternative provision, or mental health support.
  • Training in Team Teach, MAPA, de-escalation, or similar behaviour management strategies.
  • Knowledge of restorative practice and trauma-informed teaching.
