Overview

National Museums NI is a leading cultural institution and is responsible for ensuring that its significant collection is developed, cared for and accessible to the widest possible audience. Almost one million people enjoy our four museums each year, and through loans, research, community activity and digital programmes we engage a much wider audience than those who physically visit our museums.

Security Officers will be based at the Ulster Museum, Belfast, however, on occasion, Security Officers may need to cover at other National Museums NI sites. Security Officers will work alongside a Security colleague, and occasionally as a lone worker. Security Officers will be required to be customer focused and be an integral part of the visitor services team contributing to the visitor experience.

Role and responsibilities

Position: Security Officer (nights).

Primary responsibility: security and safety of the site and the National Collection, ensuring that visitors and staff are provided with a safe and secure environment. The Ulster Museum is a busy city centre site with high daily visitor numbers and is also a venue for evening functions, weddings and corporate events. Responsibilities include operating the Visitor Management System and managing access to keys held onsite as per procedures. During night hours you will monitor the security and fire alarm systems to maintain the sites security and integrity.

Operational expectations: work with minimal supervision, handle emergencies using initiative and according to site security procedures, identify risks to staff, visitors and collections, and act promptly to address any danger.

Hours, pattern and location

This is a full-time post (37 hours per week) that includes weekends and bank/public holidays. The shift pattern is 3 days in week one and 4 days in week two, with shifts from 19:00 to 07:00.

Salary and benefits

Salary: £26,449 – £28,094 pro rata, per annum. Package: NICS pension scheme. Generous leave entitlement.
