Job description

The post-holder will provide medical services managing a caseload and lead witha wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the higheststandards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

The Practice is looking for 6 sessions per week.

Main duties of the job

To support 3 GP partners managing a busy Practice. The appointee will also have the opportunity to take part or lead in developing appropriate healthcare services for a diverse, patient list (practice based commissioning, patient participation and health promotion. (This is a GMS Practice).

Clinicalresponsibilities:

Inaccordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will makehim/herself available to undertake a variety of duties including surgeryconsultations and emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, visitingpatients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing withqueries, patient test results, patient medical reports and examinations (e.g.Insurance Companies) on behalf of the Practice, referral letters NHS/private, paperworkand correspondence in a timely manner.

Makingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whetherself-referred or referred from other health care workers within theorganisation.

Recordingclear and accurate I.T. based consultation notes to agreed standards.

Collectingdata for audit purposes and contributing to the Practice audit program as required.

Compilingand issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.

Prescribingin accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines.

Ingeneral the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties andresponsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

About us

We are a busy NHS Training Practice in the centre of Dartford with approxiamately 7400 patients. We have 4 General Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses and 1 HCAs, 2 GP Assistants and 10 members of staff within the Management, Secretarial, Reception and Administrative Teams.

Prescribe safe and effective medicines managementwhich conforms to

NICE guidance and DHdirectives, Good Prescribing Practice as defined by British National Formulary(BNF) guidance from Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain on safe andsecure handling of medicine, operate safe management and regular review for allpatients receiving repeat prescriptions, Controlled Drugs legislation, Sharedprotocols agreed between the ICB and other NHS providers, locally specifiedPatient Group Directions.

Work effectively so as not to exceed the Practiceprescribing budget as

set annually by the ICB.

Comply with targets set within the PrescribingIncentive Scheme.

Contribute to the teams approach which ensuresthat referrals are made for patients to see other medical service providers,ensuring that adequate information is given to personnel to whom the patienthas been referred for proper assessment to be made.

Be supportive of any complaints policy andprocedure to ensure proper investigation and appropriate follow up action inthe event of a complaining being made about any aspect of the service providedor any personal provider of the service.

Other responsibilitieswithin the Practice:

Awarenessof and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g.prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, annual QOFAssessment of the Practice.

Acommitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based bestpractice.

Contributing to individual case discussions atclinical meetings and bring examples of cases for group discussion.

Contributing to the organisational development ofthe Practice by contributing to the development of ideas, strategies andpolicies which will promote efficiency and wellbeing of the practice.

Contributingto evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.

Contributingto the development of computer-based patient records.

Attendingtraining, Practice & team Meetings and events organised by the practice orother agencies as may be necessary.

Meetall tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure thatthe Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g.Quarterly Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc.)
